Many headline VPS prices hide a yearly payment

Of 27 plans under $15 in our base, 5 show a monthly figure that is only available when you pay a year or more upfront. The provider divides the term price by the months, and the result goes on the pricing card in large type.

The lowest such price is RackNerd KVM 1 GB at $1.83 a month (billed yearly at $21.99). It is a good deal for a project you will keep for the full term, and a sunk cost if you leave early.

Monthly billing is worth a few dollars on a new project

A new site, bot or service often changes direction in the first months: the stack changes, the load turns out different, or the project stops. Monthly billing lets you resize, move to another provider or stop with a loss of one month at most. For that flexibility the monthly-billed plans in the table cost a little more than the prepaid ones.

If even a month is too long, take a provider with hourly billing and delete the server when done.

Match a plan to your workload. The calculator sizes memory and cores for the job and shows matching plans with checked prices and the billing term.

2 GB without prepayment covers most first projects

The cheapest monthly-billed plan with 2 GB is VPS.org Starter at $3.50 a month. That is enough for a WordPress site, a bot with a database or a small API; see the website page for sizing.

With 4 GB or more for a store or n8n: VPSDime Linux VPS 6 GB at $7 a month.

Switch to a yearly plan once the project is stable

After three to six months you know the real size and the provider’s quality. That is the moment to move to a prepaid plan if it saves money: compare the yearly totals on the cheap VPS page and in VPS pricing in 2026.

Check what the monthly price includes

Compare the same things across rows: a public IPv4 address, backups, DDoS filtering and traffic. A plan that is a dollar cheaper but charges for IPv4 or backups ends up more expensive. The provider comparison shows these features side by side.
